Our First Small Grants Projects

Dear Friends of GLOW,

We have some updates! We are pleased to report that our first small grants program recipient has completed her project, and another girl is well on her way to the finish line.

Lika Khutsiberidze designed and implemented her community project with the guidance of our Small Grants committee members. Lika held a photography contest to motivate youth in her small mountain to be active and seek a positive creative outlet. Lika called on students from all schools in her town of Tkibuli to submit photos pertaining to the theme of children’s rights or a theme of their choice. She and her partner organization received about 50 photos in total. Lika and her partners chose the best 25 photos and printed them to display in a local cafe. Together, they held a gallery event where students, teachers, and governmental organizations attended. At the gallery event, three winners were awarded for best photos, and congratulated for their work.

Our next volunteer, Keti Mouravidze is currently in the implementation process of her small grant. Keti is planning to give presentations at her school about the rights of people with disabilities, and she will hold a small field day in May for all community members to participate in. We can’t wait to see the results!

Finally, we just completed our second annual project design and management conference for our new crop of 26 Taking GLOW Home volunteers. Each girl left the conference with a draft project plan. The next small grants deadline is in May, and we are excited to see the results!

GLOW Small Grants Program Update

We are excited to share that the GLOW Ambassadors Small Grants Program was launched on May 1. The first round of grant applications are expected on June 15th. Twenty-five GLOW Ambassadors are eligible for the grants. Here is a brief description of the grants program:

What is the GLOW Ambassadors Small Grants Program?

The GLOW Ambassadors Small Grants Program is intended to provide small grants of up to 500 GEL for projects designed and implemented by GLOW Ambassadors in their communities. Through program, we hope to empower our Ambassadors to expand the scope and impact of their projects making them more effective agents of change in their communities. With this in mind, we hope that our GLOW Ambassadors will use the program to think bigger and design a project that wouldn’t be possible without funding.

Who is eligible to apply for a GLOW Ambassadors Small Grant?

GLOW Ambassadors who are still living in their home community
GLOW Regional Ambassadors who are still living in their home community
All GLOW Ambassadors MUST have a community partner such as a local school or organization partnering with them on their project. Grant funds will be transferred to the community partner and both the community partner and the GLOW Ambassador will be responsible for managing and reporting on project spending.
GLOW Ambassadors are NOT eligible for new grant funding if they have an existing grant still in progress.
GLOW Ambassadors may partner together to submit a grant. However, one Ambassador should be the lead on the grant application.

Grant Requirements

To be eligible for funding, projects must meet the following requirements:
Be initiated and directed by one or more GLOW Ambassadors
Project activities must be conducted in or near the GLOW Ambassador’s own community
Involve a community partner such as a local school or organization
Meet a determined community need
Promote capacity building
Include indicators of success through monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
Support a stand-alone activity with definite start and end dates and concrete goals and objectives
Be scheduled for completion within six months
Not exceed 500 GEL in funding from the Small Grants Program
Include a community contribution of at least 25% of the total estimated project cost
