Over the past few months, our projects have continued to operate and provide essential support to people on the move. In Athens, our teams have faced a series of new and increasingly complex challenges. The political context has become more difficult, homelessness is rising, and we are seeing more deportations back to Greece from other EU countries. At the same time, formal support systems remain limited. These shifts have required us to actively adapt our services and adjust how we run the space so we can respond to rapidly changing needs. Therefore, we have introduced a variety of new workshops and activities tailored towards employment, education and meeting basic needs. We are also excited to announce that this year a group of runners will be running the Athens Marathon to raise money for our project in Athens!
On Kos, the arrival of summer has allowed us to continue our usual activities and restart community events outside of The Hub, including the muchloved weekly volleyball sessions. However, we continue to witness the difficult conditions faced by people living in the CCAC and the ongoing restrictive measures imposed there. Summer also brings an influx of tourists, which reduces local accommodation availability and makes it harder to recruit new volunteers. As a result, our team has been operating with a very small group over the past few months, doing their best to maintain stability and support.
Our Social Factory continues to steadily grow. These past few months the team has continued to create new pieces, and we have been delighted by how warmly these items have been received, whether at stands in Switzerland or by community members in Athens. We also are very grateful for different companies reaching out to do collaborations.
