Glocal Roots supports people on the move in Greece and Turkiye through three key projects in Athens, Kos, and Izmir. We provide access to essential services, legal and social support, emergency relief, integration pathways, and fair employment for refugee women. Across The Victoria Community Centre, The Hub, and Social Factory, we build community, dignity, and long-term opportunities.
Hundreds of refugees arrive on Kos each month, facing unsafe camp conditions, scarce resources, and limited access to work or information. In Athens, people lose all support on arrival, often becoming homeless and unable to navigate language barriers or bureaucracy. Women face added genderbased exclusion, while children experience instability. Refugee women also struggle to access dignified work due to social marginalisation and exploitative labour markets.
On Kos, our Free Shop and Hub provide essentials, activities, language classes, and helpdesk support. In Athens, the VCC offers a Women and Children's Safe Space, childcare, essentials, and a Community Cafe providing hot drinks, lunches, and integration workshops. The Social Factory creates fair jobs and training for refugee women, supporting long-term independence and sustainability.
The Hub builds longterm resilience on Kos by ensuring refugees are informed, connected to support, and gaining skills that strengthen future opportunities and community cohesion. In Athens, the VCC's integrated model removes barriers to people receiving support and enhances opportunities to integrate into new societies. The Social Factory provides fair jobs and training for refugee women while reducing CO emissions through sustainable production.
