An Update on Your Donation to the SNAP Emergency Relief Fund

Thank you for your donation to GlobalGiving’s SNAP Emergency Relief Fund. Your support came at a profound moment of uncertainty for millions of families across the United States, when the federal government shutdown interrupted SNAP benefits without warning.

During the lapse in support, many grassroots food security organizations became lifelines. Many were already stretched thin, yet they stepped in to distribute emergency meals, keep pantries stocked, and support families who suddenly had no other source of assistance.

As benefits resumed, these organizations have continued working to recover from the surge in demand and depleted resources. Your gift helped them respond in the hardest moment—and it is helping them rebuild now.

In this grant round, donations from the SNAP Emergency Relief Fund supported trusted, community-led nonprofit partners on the front lines of hunger relief in California and Texas, two of the states with the highest numbers of SNAP-reliant households.

Here is a glimpse into the work you’ve made possible:

The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) in Los Angeles provides daily meals, housing support, and comprehensive care to women experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty. During the November SNAP disruption, DWC saw demand surge as many women relied on the center as their only consistent food access point.

Your gift helped DWC restock supplies, expand meal distribution, and cover increased operational costs. This ensured women facing multiple challenges could continue receiving reliable, dignified care.

United Way of Southern Cameron County (UWSCC) serves families across the Rio Grande Valley, one of the most economically challenged regions in the country. When SNAP benefits were delayed, food banks and pantries coordinated by UWSCC experienced an immediate spike in demand.

Your donation enabled UWSCC to respond quickly—restocking pantries, t strengthening distribution networks, and reaching households who were disproportionately affected and are still recovering.

Although this fund will no longer be accepting donations, and this will be the final fund report of this kind, the work you’ve helped make possible continues.  We hope you will consider supporting our nonprofit partners directly, so they can keep responding to urgent community needs with your ongoing solidarity.

Your generosity gives community-led partners the flexibility to respond quickly and compassionately.

With deep gratitude,
Raghuvendra + The GlobalGiving Team
