Meet Noam and his guide dog Liam

By Gudrun Olaya | Project Leader

Dear donor and friend, the following story must be told, because it is not only heartwarming, but it teaches us so much about compassion and solidarity among the animal realm. Two months ago we got a call from a vet of an adjacent village, sharing the case of an elderly, blind dog, in danger of being euthanized, due to his big size and special condition. No one has shown any interest in adopting him. We didn´t hesitate a bit and agreed to guarantee him a safe shelter life. No harm, no fear, no death threat. So the big boy arrived and we asked the accompanying person for his background story, which left us speechless. He was found wandering in the streets and picked up by the fireworkers, in order to save his life from being run over by a car. But Noam, as we named him, was not alone. There was that brave little dog at his side, so much smaller than him, guiding him so bravely, so determined. They spent some time together in the local kennel, never were separated and Noam always felt protected by his animal spirit. This narration touched us deeply and the owner of our shelter immediately said, that we had to bring this wonderful little soul in, because Noam depends on him and trusts him unconditionally. We turned round, picked Liam from the kennel and reunited the brothers. Their joy was overwhelming and we understood, that one cannot separate what isn’t meant to be. Hopefully, we’ll find a loving forever home for both of them together. In the meantime, they still need sponsors for their maintenance and we are so happy and grateful for your support.
