Hello Glad's House supporters!
I'm so happy to be sharing an update with you about my recent 6 week trip to Mombasa. During that time I had the opportunity to visit all of the Prisons and Juvenile Institutions that we work in and see just where you're donations have gone!
Firstly, I have some really exciting news. Remember last time I wrote to you I told you about Adam. We had supported him back to mainstream education when he left the Approved School. Well, in his first term back into formal education he managed to come 4th out of over 500 boys in his year! What an AMAZING achievement! We are all so proud of Adam and his passion for education and we are so hopeful that Adam will be the first of many success stories to result from your valued support.
Whilst I was in Mombasa I was also able to take part in some of the sporting activities we have been taking into the Juvenile Homes. It is safe to say, Coach Buffalo has Hero status in those institutions! We were fortunate to be able to secure permission to take our community boys team into the Approved School for a friendly match. It was so special to see the young men who are imprisoned able to interact positively with their peers, without stigma or judgment, simply through fun and games. They would have happily played all night!
I was also able to accompany the Glad’s House Advocacy Team to distribute Care Packs in one of the adult prisons to the young people being held. There were 317 inmates across the cells. Shockingly, we were able to identify almost 100 young people that were known to Glad’s House.
Those children and young people can’t say thank you to you, they can’t tell you what it means to them to have their basic needs met, to be able to brush their teeth, to wash their bodies, to be able to use toilet paper when they need the bathroom. They can’t thank you, but I can, and so from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU! Thank you for enabling us to help boys like Adam, girls like Anne who with her friends, can now play football and like Kennedy, who now because of your support, is able to keep clean whilst imprisoned!
This is an ongoing appeal so please keep sharing with your friends and family on social media or forward this email, the more we raise, the more children and young people we can support! Or if you have ANY questions about the programme or campaign, then please get in touch, I'd be more than happy to talk to anyone about our plan for the future in the prisons or our wider plan!
Best Wishes
Vicky
