Homeless children in Mombasa lack access to education that is age appropriate and matches their ability. Therefore, most of them when they get a chance to go to school, they are unable to make it to completion due to various challenges. Major challenges are; one cannot fit in a class due to the age gap and inability to catch up with peers in class. Our catch-up education program challenges this by offering accelerated learning to these individuals which catches them up with their peers in school
This project will help provide more staff with a stronger understanding of the pedagogy of learning and development. Individuals accessing the education project will have a qualified staff member consistently supporting them according to their academic abilities and pace. The staff will also help prepare individuals to transition into mainstream education and participate in planning and case meetings, offering clear reports as each individual progresses to the next level.
Having more qualified staff members to work with needy children and youth who have dropped out of school, will enable individuals to rebuild their lives academically hence giving them equal opportunity to fit in to the education system. Most children are being left out in the current Competency Based Education (CBE), hence the services to be provided by our staff can only help accelerate learning in collaboration with other stakeholders.
