Dear Friends,
For this update, I'd like to share the story of Sarah, who is 16, with you and how you're support has enabled us to provide her with a much brighter future.
Our Social Worker, Mugambi, met Sarah in the Juvenile Remand Home. She had been placed in the Remand Home after she ran away from home following her relationship with her mother breaking down.
Sarah had always had big dreams for herself and was passionate about her education. When her mother stopped paying her fees in Class 7 in Primary School, Sarah found ways to pay her on fees despite only being 13 years old. For the next three years Sarah washed people's clothes, asked for church donations and cleaned people's houses so she could remain in school.
Sarah's passion for education shone through from the moment we met her. After visiting her mum (whilst Sarah was still in the Juvenile Prison) it was clear to us that Sarah would be unable to return to school as her mother refused to support her any further.
We saw huge potential in Sarah and knew we had to help her realise her dreams of finishing school. We also knew there was a significant chance of Sarah ending up on the streets if we didn’t intervene, as it was clear her relationship with her mum had totally broken down.
On release we picked Sarah up and took her to her new school. Thanks to your support Sarah is now about to finish her first term in Secondary School and is flourishing at her new school and we are all so proud of her!
Without your support, we would never have met Sarah and her future would be look so different right now. Sarah can’t thank you, but I can, so thank you! Your support and believe in the work we do makes such a difference to so many children’s lives and we are all so grateful!
Best wishes from all of us in Mombasa
Vicky
