This Giving Tuesday you will have the opportunity to strengthen our vision for peace and equity starting from our base in Loiza. With your donation we will be able to continue developing community health-workers, providing free psychological and psychosocial services for survivors of domestic violence, promoting community leaders and violence interrupters, creating community building activities and developing neutral violence-free zones in the communities and advancing human rights policies.
Puerto Rico is going through the worst economic crisis in its history, over 60% of the population is living in poverty and the recovery after hurricanes Maria and Irma is slow and for many communities. Loiza is a coastal rural area lacking essential services like hospitals, supermarkets and public transportation and was one of the communities more affected by the hurricanes. Accessing health services are extremely hard to access especially in communities like Loiza.
Taller Salud provides trains community health promoters which go home to home helping people with different health conditions, we work with popular education methods to teach about equity, stopping racism, building a culture of peace and overall health. We will continue and grow our ten-year-old peace-building program which has lowered violence deaths by 80%. Recovery efforts is also one of our main initiatives to work on community development and social transformation.
We will impact 26,000 persons from Loiza with our three initiatives so they can enjoy an integral wellbeing.
