Floods impacting Hawaii islands

SmartAID Hawaii Flood Response — A Story of Community and Resilience across Hawaii Islands

In the wake of the worst flooding Hawaii has experienced in over 20 years, something powerful is happening across the affected communities people are coming together.

On the ground, SmartAID teams are working side by side with local first responders, farmers, and community leaders not just to respond, but to help rebuild a sense of stability and connection during a very difficult time.

Even while continuing efforts across the Middle East, the team felt a strong responsibility to stand with communities in Hawaii. Because when disaster strikes, support shouldn’t have borders.

This weekend, that support is taking shape in a very real way.

Across five different locations, solar-powered community hubs are being set up small but powerful spaces that are quickly becoming lifelines for families. For many in these rural areas, electricity was never guaranteed. Now, after the floods, it’s almost completely gone.

But as the sun sets, these hubs light up.

Phones are being charged so families can reach loved ones. Lights turn on, bringing a sense of safety back into the night. Fans begin to run, offering relief in the heavy air. Conversations start again, children gather, and for a moment  things feel a little more normal.

Each hub is supporting dozens of families, creating a place not just for power, but for connection.

And while they are meeting urgent needs today, these same hubs are also building something for tomorrow stronger, more resilient communities that are better prepared for whatever comes next.

Moments like these are a reminder that recovery isn’t only about infrastructure. It’s about people, dignity, and restoring the small daily things that matter most.

And it’s made possible through continued support allowing teams to move quickly, work locally, and bring practical solutions exactly where they’re needed.
