Giving Light & Hope to Families - Maui Wildfires

Project Report | Aug 16, 2025
Shining Maui

By Ron Zeltzer | COO

When wildfires swept through Maui in August 2023, claiming 102 lives and destroying over 2,200 buildings, the island’s spirit faced a test like no other.

Thanks to your generosity, SmartAID arrived swiftly, bringing hope through action.

Our team hit the ground running aiding in search and rescue, setting up solar power units and telecommunication systems to restore light and connection.

We distributed hygiene kits, blankets, and water filters, ensuring families had the basics to hold on. From the start, we knew Maui’s people were the heart of recovery. We partnered with local heroes.

Together, we built a coordination hub with laptops and Wi-Fi, empowering first responders and charities to work as one. Your support helped us spark small businesses, install Microgrids, and provide cleaning machines to shelters, and providing connectivity for families, planting seeds for a stronger future. Now, as we step back, we’re filled with pride.

Maui’s community has taken the reins, turning our programs into self-sustaining lifelines.

Thank you to the local community leaders who guided us, shared their knowledge, and welcomed us into their ‘ohana, we are forever grateful.

And to the Maui community itself, your strength, kindness, and determination have inspired us every step of the way. As we leave our friends in Hawaii, we do so with hearts full of gratitude and confidence.

Maui is not just recovering it is flourishing, carried forward by a community empowered to lead.

Your generosity made this possible, and we thank you for trusting SmartAID to deliver aid where it was needed most.

With gratitude,

The SmartAID Team
