As per previous report, 16 children were elected to receive integral treatment during 6 months (February – July), with donations received through GlobalGiving.
Out of them, the 5 youngest children of 4-years old, have attended once every month and a half in average, to the stimulation and prevention groups which include speech therapy and psychology; 2 of them speak perfectly well and are in the process of initiating their kindergarten; the youngest, who is still below one-year old, is receiving all necessary stimulation guidelines to avoid language difficulties; a 4.5 year-old girl has big difficulties with her speech and will require a very speech therapy intensive tracing, lives far from Bogota and it is not feasible for her to come more than once a month. Regarding dentistry treatment for these children, they have attended once every three weeks in average, especially for oral health maintenance and prevention of alterations, even though, 3 out of the 5 have required operative dentistry.
The 8 children in school age (4 – 7 years old), have attended to speech therapy once a month in average, although 4 out of them, who still have language alterations, attend once a week where possible. They have also attended psychology therapies once every two months in average to do the proper adjustments to their treatment and school environment. 5 out of the 8, already started their initial orthodontic treatment. All of them have had oral health sessions.
The 3 oldest children from this group (10-12 years old) are mainly receiving dentistry treatment focused on the interceptive orthodontics with an average presence of once every three weeks, for control purposes of their orthodontic appliances. 2 of them still have some speech alterations; therefore, they simultaneously attend speech therapies when they come to dentistry controls.
With the donations received since first report, these 16 children will be able to continue their treatment for two more weeks, it means approximately until mid-August, 2013.
