This project will provide 2 free sanitary pads packets per month and 4 inner wear to 250 girls (11-20 years old) living in urban poor settings, whose families income streams are drastically affected by the Covid-19 pandemic With schools closed, and opportunities for free pads access gone, majority have resulted to domestic servitude, sexual exploitation and selling of worms to fishermen/women to buy one packet of pads at $0.50. The fund will cover the cost of 1 packet of sanitary napkin @ $0.50
1.Young girls currently cannot access sanitary towels because of lack of money since their parents lost their casual jobs hence a sanitary towel is of less priority compared to food and rent. 2. The young girls result into sexual exploitation in exchange for money to buy sanitary towels. 3. There is a high risk of girls are also losing focus on their dreams and education since schools are closed due to pandemic and they are pushed to contribute to family needs hence domestic servitude.
Girls accessing free sanitary towels will reduce sexual exploitation hence reduce the rising number of teenage pregnancies recorded in Kenya today during the Covid-19 pandemic period.
1. Girls will resume schooling when schools re open and get education in-order to secure their future. 2. Reduce or even end child sexual exploitation among our clientele. 3. Address and end teenage pregnancies.
