Dear friends and partners,
First, I would like to apologize for the long silence.
I have been wondering how to get back on track with reporting after a couple of months and it has been hard. But here I am after months of despondency and discouragement, having found a way to dig in my heels and keep going. If you've been following events in Kenya in the news. You saw young people demonstrating on the streets, many losing their lives in the process. The awareness of this generation and their courage was attributed by many to their education. Education remains the most powerful change agent we have and we continue to enable young people get quality yet affordable education. This is the encouragement we all have to bring hope.
Despite the challenges we have been facing nationally, at the grassroots level we still bring hope to many children. Our school enrolment at the end of 2023 was 118 students, 49% Boys (58) and 51% (60) Girls. At the start of the 2024 school term, this number dropped to 105 students. These are the children we served throughout this year.
Below are some achievements we've wrought together.
In the January – April school Term we had the following highlights:-
- Our Junior Secondary School Lab construction was 90% complete
- Learners participated in various sports and school club activities including soccer, chess
- Recruitment of three new staff for Grade
In the June-August school Term we had the following highlights
- Our children participated in sports and drama festivals
- Our boys and girls soccer teams reached the finals of the sub-zonal ball games
- We had a successful Parents Teachers Association consultative meeting
- As part of our digital literacy initiatives we started a Coding and Robotics program with over 20 students attending weekly sessions
In the August-October school term we had the following highlights,
- We improved how much we gave learners voice and choice and thus supported our students to choose clubs and sports in line with their interests. Learners chose to join various clubs such as Chess, Art, E-STEM, (Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Performing Arts, Scouts, and Environmental Clubs.
- The third KPSEA summative assessment is ongoing for Grade 6 to mark their transition into Grade 7 and Junior Secondary School in 2025.
Upcoming Events
- Students in Grade 6 will transition to Grade 7 as per 100% Government transition policy
- Construction of Grade 8 is to be completed before January 2025 and we are currently raising funds for the project
- Our playing field will be graded to provide learners with the opportunity to participate in a soccer
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to posting more regular updates
