The importance of energy in the winter months!

By Isabel Mora | Project Manager

Dear supporters of our Solar Panel Project on Kara Tepe,
First of all - Thank you for your support! We hope you are enjoying this holiday season with warmth and peace.
We would like to use this opportunity to inform you not only about the current solar panel project but a bit more about the situation on the ground:
How we have handled the winter months so far:
We have helped install new isoboxes with electricity to accomodate extra people from Moria camp which is significantly above full capacity in these cold winter months (people from Moria are sleeping in tents outside). We made sure that they had the solar panels installed in their housing unites before they entered the camp to be sure to keep an equil distribution amongst the residents of Kara Tepe. In addition, we have had truck loads of donations come with coats and winter relief items. Plus we have collaborated with a beautiful initative called 'Sheltersuits' which provides warm coats that also convert into sleeping bags to withstand below freezing temperatures.
How Solar Panels have contributed during the winter months:
In the winter months, residents are more frequently inside their housing units. In addition, in the winter months we need to crank up the heating inside the homes, and we must take into consideration that it gets darker earlier in the day. The need for electricty for to create light is ever more important during this time of year.
We have not received a significant amount of donations since our last report in October, but we thank you for your donations and encourage to help spread the word amongst your close friends and family during the holiday season, to help support those in need around the world!

Thank you for your support, on behalf of the communities on the island of Lesvos.

We wish you a happy new year!

With gratitude from Kara Tepe.
