The island of Lesvos has been seeing an increasing and increasing amount of arrivals per week to the island. This means that the camps will soon be at maximum capacity.
We are happy to say that several solar panels have been installed but we still need to be able to help more families.
In addition, these are the hottest months of the year with over 40-45 degrees celcius (105 degrees fahrenheit). This means that its too hot to even run normal activities on the camp due to these temperatures. It also means that we have been using fans in the isoboxes at maximum capacity to cool camp homes. This takes a lot of energy. The good thing is that this is the best time of year to charge the solar panels with soarching sunlight. We want to maximise this time to be able to help people feel comfortable in this extreme condition.
Our volunteer team recently cleaned the solar panels with residents from the camp. In addition, during a shortage of power on the entire island, the only people that still had light were actually the families on Kara Tepe with solar panels!
Thank you for helping us bring: light, innovation, relief, dignity and renewable energy to our CampUS on Kara Tepe in Lesvos.
Please help us spread the word.
