The Luanshya Information and Learning Center (LINC) leverages digital equity to fulfill Luanshya's youth potential by equipping them with essential skills and resources for a successful transition to higher education employment & Entrepreneurship, and to create opportunities for learning, support literacy and education, and help shape new perspectives central to a creative and innovative community.
The 60 year old library that houses the Center has a backlog of deteriorating assets in need of restoration and rehabilitation. Most pressing is the electricity rationing Zambia is currently undergoing due to severe drought. The center has no electricity for up to 7 hours a day rendering us unable to provide critical youth services and programs. Furthermore the building is not handicapped accessible and we are not able to be inclusive in service provision.
Converting to solar energy will enable us sustain and extend programing to afterschool and weekends. We will also be inclusive when the building is handicap accessible.
With consistent provision of services the Center will leverage digital equity to annually train and equip 360 youth in the 16-25-year age group with essential skills and resources for a successful transition to higher education, employment and entrepreneurship. We are also actively mitigating the effects of climate change by using green energy to run theCenter.
