Like many other educated Zimbabweans, Fran has university qualifications but failed to secure a paying job. With dependence to provide for, she has striven to take any opportunity to help them . A few months ago she heard of a field agent from A Self-Help Assistance Program (ASAP) Zimbabwe's impending visit and she joined a meeting and was quickly sold when she heard the feedback from other participating ladies in her community. Fran borrowed $100 from her group and has since started small market trading and is now contributing towards the family income. She is delighted that she can give her children healthy food and can cover small family expenses as it had been very difficult to manage the household expenses on one income. With unemployment very high in the country, her spouse often has to travel far to make ends meet. Selling the vegetables gives her he flexibility to balance work and family demands better than she can with any employer.
She is very delighted with this opportunity but as uou will notice in the photos below, you will realise not all the parts of Mutare, Zimbabwe are hopeful for bounty harvest which will make life even harder for the marert traders in the coming months.
I am always uplifted when I speak to the locl women asn they have such faith and believe God's Grace will provide more opportunities.
