In Kisumu, Children and Adolesecents living with HIV face a silent crisis. Poverty forces families to choose between food and clinic visits. Stigma keeps children isolated and ashamed. Interrupted schooling dims futures before they begin. With HIV prevalence triple the national average and only 52% of adolescents achieving viral suppression, the urgency could not be greater. The project will reach 2,000 CALHIV with health, economic and education support because every child deserves to thrive.
For a child living with HIV in Kisumu, staying on treatment means far more than taking medicine. It means a caregiver who can afford clinic transport, a stable and loving home and a school completely free from stigma. For thousands of families, these basic conditions do not exist. Unemployment, food insecurity and donor funding cuts have stripped away every safety net leaving children vulnerable to treatment failure, school dropout and a bright future that was never meant to end this way.
The project delivers one coordinated solution across four pillars. Peer mentors and OTZ champions support CALHIV through adherence counseling and regular home visits. Caregivers receive business training and enterprise grants to build lasting household income. Children at risk of dropping out get school fees, learning materials and dignity packs. And for the most vulnerable, household safety assessments and targeted home improvements create the stable nurturing environments every child deserves.
When a child with HIV stays on treatment, remains in school and grows up in a stable and loving home, the impact reaches far beyond one life. Educated adolescents make better decisions. Empowered caregivers raise healthier families. Stronger communities break generational cycles of vulnerability. THRIVE leaves behind resilient households and lasting systems in health, education and livelihoods because investing in 2,000 children today means a healthier, self-determined Kenya for tomorrow.
