By Jennipher Akullu | Lead teacher, Kathy's kindergarten
Happy new year! As we reflect on the past months, we are filled with gratitude for your continued support and generosity, which enables Kathy’s kindergarten to transform the lives of the children in Mayuge and shape bright futures.
As the year began, our gates were wide open to receive new babies and our continuing students. The start is always tough as children are joining a new environment, but by week two, tears had turned into the widest smiles. The joy and energy that these little ones bring to our classrooms are simply unmatched. Their innocent curiosity, boundless enthusiasm, and wide smiles have breathed new life into our school environment. It has been heart-warming to witness their excitement as they discover the wonders of learning, make new friends, and explore the world around them.
Among our amazing learners, we have two boys namely; Myca and Timothy, whose actions, confidence and enthusiasm keeps the school lively and motivates other little ones.
From the moment Myca walked into the kindergarten classroom, everyone knew he was different. He wasn’t just another new student but a force of nature. With his wide grin smile, bright eyes, and a voice that carried across the entire schoolyard, Myca made sure he was noticed.
“I’m Myca! and I’m the fastest runner here!” he declared on the very first day, standing tall in the middle of the playground. No one had even challenged him to a race yet, but that didn’t matter. In Myca’s world, everything was a competition, and he had already crowned himself the champion.
During class, while other children hesitated to answer questions, Myca’s hand shot up before the teacher even finished speaking. Sometimes, he blurted out answers without waiting to be called on. “It’s three! The answer is three!” he’d say with so much confidence that even when he was wrong, it was hard not to believe him.
But Myca wasn’t just loud, he was curious, social, and fearless. He introduced himself to every child, whether they wanted to talk or not. If he saw someone sitting alone, he marched right over. “Hey, I’m Myca! Wanna play?” More often than not, his enthusiasm was impossible to resist.
Of course, his stubbornness was just as strong as his energy. When he decided he was right, it took a lot to change his mind. One afternoon, during an art lesson, he insisted that the sky had to be red. “Who says it always has to be blue? Maybe today, it’s red!” His teacher smiled, knowing there was no arguing with Myca’s imagination.
But for all his confidence, Myca had his moments, too. One day, during a game of tag, he ran so fast that he tripped over his own feet and landed hard on the ground. The laughter and chatter around him faded, and for a brief moment, Myca wasn’t the unstoppable force he always seemed to be.
He sat there, blinking back tears, not because of the pain, but because falling wasn’t part of the plan. Just as he was about to get up and pretend nothing happened, he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder. It was Timothy, the quiet, serious boy who rarely spoke but always noticed everything.
“Are You okay?” Timothy asked.Myca hesitated, then nodded. “Yeah… I guess I fell.”
Timothy simply shrugged. “Happens to everyone. But you’re still fast.”
That was all it took. A grin spread across Myca’s face, and just like that, he was back on his feet, ready to run again. Because if there was one thing Myca knew, not even a fall could keep him down for long.
As long as there were people like Timothy, teachers who believed in him, and a school that welcomed his big personality, Myca would continue to shine just as bright, bold, and unstoppable as ever. There's no doubt that Kathy’s kindergarten is the only place where children like Myca, Timothy and many more who are full of energy, dreams, and determination can thrive.
Thank you for being an integral part of our mission.Your kindness makes it possible for children to learn, grow, and be exactly who they are meant to be.Your generosity has also enabled us to extend opportunities to families who might not have otherwise been able to afford this critical foundation for their children’s future.
