Adventure Trip for Youths

The "Adventure Trip for Youths", co-organized by the Rotary Club of Causeway Bay Hong Kong (RCCB) and the Association (HKACLP), was postponed several times due to the COVID 19 epidemic, and finally was held on 11 April successfully.

Contents of the Day Camp included a life orientation workshop, group games and high rope activity. In the AM session that day, the instructor, Gary Sir, delivered a presentation of life planning, which aimed to inspire the young members to find the goals of life and to make career planning for themselves.  After lunch, there were group games for ice breaking, practicing social skills and building of team work.  Then, they had high-rope activity which not only offer excitement, but also give chance to the youths to challenge themselves physically as well as to develop their problem-solving skills.

This activity is fun and wholesome to the youths with cleft anomalies.  HKACLP will seek for cooperation with other organizations to organize activities of the like in the future.

 Parent's Sharing with Primary Students

In 2021, we cooperate again with JEMS Character Academy that fosters and builds foundations of good character in children, by arranging our parent/patient to share the treatment of cleft lip and palate, as well as HKACLP's services.

Through the parent’s/patient’s sharing, the students may know more about cleft anomalies, their difficulties and feelings, and the ways they cope with challenges. In return, the students will send cards they drawn and make some small donations to HKACLP.  Since outbreak of COVID epidemic, the personal sharing are shifted to video conferences.

On 23 and 24 April, our volunteer parent Mrs. Almus Lau provided three sessions of sharing to JEMS students who listened carefully to Mrs. Lau’s sharing and asked questions enthusiastically.

HKACLP takes every opportunity to enhance members of the public’s understanding about the congenital cleft anomalies, the patient’s life story and the parents’ feelings so as to promote social inclusion and harmony.

Orthodontic Treatment Subsidy for Cleft Lip and Palate Youths

The second phase of orthodontic treatment can help cleft lip and palate patients to further correct their “underbite” problem before completion of jawbone development.

The association has recently successfully applied for charitable fund to subsidize young people with cleft lip and palate from the grassroots and CSSA families to receive private orthodontic treatment, so that they can receive orthodontic treatment with more flexibility in time and venue, and at the same time reduce part of the parents' burden.

Objectives of the Programme:

1) Young patients may choose the treatment provided by private doctors with profound experience in cleft lip and palate orthodontics;

2) Young patients may receive timely and patient-oriented orthodontic treatment;

3) Due orthodontic treatment can help to reduce the young patients’ underbite problem, improving their eating, speaking and appearance.  And more importantly, the complexity of their future jaw surgery may be alleviated, or may even avoid, so that they may recover more easily and quickly.

HKACLP holds regular briefing sessions to explain how to participate in the treatment program, how to apply for subsidy, how patients should cooperate during orthodontic treatment, and follow-up treatment in the future.
