Update
This last month was filled with activities as our members were benefiting from a month and a half vacation.
In August, 30 members selected among Shining Stars, Magic boys and Golden Boys embarked on a trip to Kumasi. Basketball matches were organized, a visit to the Manhyia Palace, a swim at the pool, and more Basketball were on the agenda. We ended our great journey at Orphan Aid in Dodowa to visit our friends from Dynasty Basketball Camp and play some friendly matches. It is an experience our members will cherish for the rest of their lives!
Youth Committee
The 4th youth committee meeting took place early September and was attended by the executive committee, the coaches and the team representatives. The meeting was successful and various objectives were agreed on such as the improved involvement of Nii Boi Town in contributing to the development of the organization. Also, the committee has managed to raise a total of 695 GHC since its establishment.
Quiz
Early September was also the first Quiz for the members from Nima to refresh their memories and compete with their friends as they get ready to go back to school. Spelling Bee, current affairs, Maths and English were some of the subjects discussed. The Junior quiz competition ended with our Novice team Magic Boys defeating Golden Boys 56pts to 18pts and Shining Stars won the Senior Quiz over the great Lady Soldiers.
Event not to miss:
Basketball Charity Tournament on the 21st of September:
BLESS THE MIC (BTM) Arts & Music Festival is one of the most energetic events in Ghana. BTMFEST is an annual weeklong festival that promotes different forms of arts in partnership with Ghana Government and Institutions such as Alliance Francaise, French Embassy, Dubois Center and British Council.
This year marks BTMFEST 5th anniversary in celebrating and promoting global arts. Our theme is “Sustaining the creative arts for the next generation”. For its 5th anniversary BMT is bringing some excitement to sport fans in Ghana. "Let's DUNK it" Charity Basketball Tournament featuring many artists, music and entertainment and a promising SLAM DUNK Competition will be taking place Saturday September 21st 2013.
Team: Training for employability, Activation and mobility
In partnership with Rheinflanke from Germany, Wizzkids from South Africa and BUSA from Zambia, the new Jamestown Sport and Development Center will be linked with a curriculum to increase employment among youth.
Youth unemployment is a major problem in Ghana and often result in “at risk behavior”. We believe that the skills taught through Basketball can contribute to youth employability. Therefore, we are looking at developing a curriculum in partnership with other organization as well as building a network of interested companies.
We are expected to start this partnership in October as well as the construction of the court!
Thank you for your support and we hope that you enjoy our updates!
