Q1 2025 Progress Report

By Natasha Perez | President

In the last few months, we have been very busy giving Central Valley dogs a second chance. One such lucky dog is Liko from Stanislaus Animal Services Agency. He was scheduled for euthanasia and was the absolute last dog standing. We were able to pull him into foster care and get to know him a bit, and my goodness we are so happy he is with us! This sweet boy is already showing potential to work as a service or therapy dog. He is attentive to his fosters yet relaxed during the hustle and bustle of our adoption fairs. He loves meeting new people and is eager to please. It is  a sad thought to know he was only minutes away from the needle that would have ended his life forever. We are currently in the process of working with a trainer to see if Liko would be a good fit for a veteran in need of a service dog.

Unfortunately, Liko's story is too common. Our local shelters are absolutely overwhelmed and even amazing dogs are being euthanized for space. Over the last several months, Better World Rescue has saved over 43 dogs and cats like Liko from euthanasia in our local shelters. We continue to grow our community assistance programs to help keep these dogs and cats in their loving homes as well. As the area experiences economic strain with high numbers of unemployment, more and more community members are reaching out to us in dire straits, facing either surrender to a beyond full shelter for euthanasia or allowing their beloved family member to suffer from treatable conditions.

The need for a boarding and behavioral training center for the area is greater than ever, and every donation helps towards this end goal. Better World Rescue is a 100% volunteer run organization focused on San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, where there is tremendous need as most of our local shelters in these counties are considered high-kill and are forced to euthanize regularly for space. Please help us to make this dream a reality and thank you for your support.
