Jabal (Not his real name) is a 9 years old boy. He belongs to a very poor family and lives in a slum called, Nilamadhab Basti. His late father was an auto driver and migrated some years ago from Nayagarh to Bhubaneswar in search of work.
Unfortunately, Jabal's father died in a road accident and all hell fell on his mother. She was a village women and didn't know anybody here in Bhubaneswar. Life was miserable for her and the 5 children. Finding no other alternative, she started working as a housemaid in nearby colony and feed her children. Education was a distance dream for the children.
Ruchika is running Remedical Education Centre in different slums of Bhubaneswar. Here also, the teacher came to know about this family and went to meet them. She counselled the mother and children. Jabal enrolled in the Remedical Education Centre. Then the teacher went to the nearby government school and discussed with the Headmaster. Initially he was reluctant to take admission of the child because he is from other District. When our teacher explained him about the "Right to Education Act." of government, he agreed to admit him in Class-III.
Now Jabal has excelled in his studies. He has secured very good marks and stood first in his class in the recently concluded annual examination. He has been selected for 'Scholarship" also. His mother and school teachers are very happy. Jabal is going to school and attending remedial education classes regularly. He wanted to be a Teacher in life.
