The Young Women's Political Leadership Course (YWPLC) started with the Politics Institute on September 7th. This year-long program aims to introduce participants to political and women's leadership basics. From September 7th (22nd Bhadra) to September 20th (4th Ashoj), the Politics Institute(PI) was conducted for 20 participants, focusing on politics, leadership, and social inclusion. The program featured a series of sessions led by experts and guest speakers covering various political and social themes to empower the fellows. The topics ranged from political history and federalism to the role of women in leadership and inclusion in technology.
The program began with an alumni panel on Foundation Day, where former fellows, many of whom were women, shared their experiences on how politics can empower individuals. This session, led by women who had experienced the program firsthand, helped set the stage for the subsequent discussions by emphasizing personal growth through political engagement. Additionally, a communications orientation gave participants the necessary skills to convey their ideas effectively throughout the program.
The program also covered the history of Nepali politics, focusing on women's contributions throughout the years. This was further explored through sessions on democracy, federalism, and political ideologies, which aimed to deepen the fellows' understanding of Nepal's political landscape.
The program also delved into the practical aspects of politics, examining the role of technology and inclusion, with sessions on artificial intelligence and discussions on privilege. It also provided practical insights into electoral systems through interactive activities, including a mock election. This hands-on approach aimed to give participants a real-world understanding of the election processes in Nepal.
Gender themes were a recurring focus, discussing whether politics is inherently gendered and the challenges women face in leadership roles. Sessions with women leaders, including Deputy Mayor Manjali and Manushi, underscored the significant contributions of women in local government and politics. The program concluded with policy formation discussions, women in science and innovation, and reflections on the intersection of politics and feminism.
Stay tuned for more updates from our 2024 YWPLC in the upcoming months!
