At Darjeeling Children’s Trust (DCT), we believe that children’s health, safety and wellbeing are fundamental to their ability to learn, grow and thrive. This autumn, two activities in particular helped us continue this work, providing access to preventative healthcare and raising awareness of important child protection issues.
Dental and Eye Camps
On 16 August, DCT organised dental and eye camps for 84 children, providing important health checks and helping identify those who needed further attention. Following the eye camp, 19 children were identified as needing spectacles, while 22 children were advised to attend follow-up dental appointments. We are grateful to the medical professionals who generously gave their time and expertise.
Human Trafficking and Child Protection Awareness Session
On 26 September, DCT organised an awareness session in collaboration with Mankind in Action for Rural Growth (MARG). The session was led by Mr Nirnay John Chettri, General Secretary, and Ms Dorji Wangmu Yolmo, Social Worker.
Topics included human trafficking, body safety, recognising inappropriate behaviour and child sexual abuse. The session aimed to increase children’s awareness of these issues, help them better understand personal boundaries, and reinforce the importance of seeking help from a trusted adult when they feel unsafe or have concerns. We thank MARG and the speakers for sharing their knowledge and contributing to this important work.
