Girls-friendly Toilets in Rural Schools of Kavre.

We are planning to build girl friendly toilets in two schools of Kavrepalanchok District. The project area is located in rural (hard to reach) area of the district. It used to take a day long to reach there by walking. However, now there is the availability of seasonal transportation facilities which is available in dry season and gets disrupted during wet seasons. The students in the schools used to go to open field and in bushes to defecate in the beginning. Therefore, we had planned to build girls friendly toilets in the two schools of Mahabharat Rural Municipality, Kavrepalanchok which has been completed at one of the schools, Shree Gauleshwari Basic School for now. The student's education there, that used to be hampered due to the absence of toilet, has been resolved to a great extent. The girl students used to be affected previously as there was unavailability of proper toilet and the number of dropouts was increasing highly. After the completion of the girl's friendly toilets in the school, the girl students are in ease and the dropout and absence rate of the girls has decreased which we hope will keep on decreasing and eventually stop. This has increased the number of girl students as well since previously dropped out girl students have rejoined and the girl students from different neighboring villages have also enrolled for attending the schools due to ease from the available facility. This has caused a makeshift improvement in the situation of girl's education within the community which is in turn contributing to the development of the community and its neighboring areas. These steps have thus resulted in promotion and practice of sanitation and hygiene in the vicinity.
