Due to strict patriarchal gender roles, girls in Chitral, Pakistan rarely have access to sports clubs and programs. This project will offer a safe, fun, educational space for girls from the area to engage with sport and play activities. Chitral Women's Sports Club will leverage the power of sport and organize football camps and tournaments for girls; advocating for equality, actively challenging gender stereotypes and encouraging girls participation in sport.
Girls from Chitral live within a deeply patriarchal society, constricted by strict gender roles and norms. There is a little to no focus on girls' and women's well being, which leads to low self-esteem and poor mental health, with an increasingly high suicide rate among young girls .
Chitral Women's Sports Club was established to create a safe, educational space for these girls. This project will help solve the problem by using sports as a catalyst to help develop girls self-esteem. The project will help foster gender quality and create a space where girls are free to be themselves.
In the long term, Chitral Women's Sports Club will remain a safe and fun space for girls to practice sports. In the future, CWSC plans to develop programs and activities that address girls' leadership, financial literacy and community building. In this way, the organization will continue to strive for gender equality and girls empowerment in Chitral.
