Dear Mann Deshi Supporters,
On 8th March, 2013, Mann Deshi celebrated Women's Day by inaugurating the "Freedom Ride" program which aims to empower school girls by providing them bicycles for their transportation to school. On this occassion, 100 bicycles were distributed to girls, with a bicycle rally from Satara flagging off the program. The dropping out of girls from schools due to difficult and expensive transportation is quite common. Mann Deshi continues to make strides in its goal of women's development by encouraging education of young girls.
Monika from Kasarwadi in Mhaswad is an inspiring story. This girl was handicapped at birth and hr polio affliction prevents her from being able to walk to her school, which is 3 kms away. Her father is a farmer and her mother, a housewife in a family of six, which includes a brother and two sisters. Monika, however, is extremely intelligent and always scores 90% or more in her school. " I am a good speaker apart from being good at academics and my parents dream that I will be an engineer someday", says Monika, who is also very talented at volleyball. Her problem, therefore, lay in the difficulty of walking to school. Although her parents had operated on her legs when she was in 3rd grade which enables her to stand properly, walking to school was difficult and time-consuming.
With the help of Mann Deshi, girls like Monika have no reason to be left behind! She explains, " I am very grateful to Mann Deshi for giving me a bicycle to go to school daily. I have always ranked 1st in my class and received award for playing volleyball. I wish to pursue both my dream of becoming an engineer and playing at the national level. My bicycle has become my legs and I can go anywhere I wish, faster and easier. It will surely make my journey to my dreams easier".
Your generous donation will enable young girls like Monika to fulfill their ambitions and help them in their quest for a better life.
