Project Report | Mar 21, 2019
They fly high..high.. and higher!

By Medha Sharma | Project Leader

A step closer to the dreams.
A step closer to the dreams.

A journey of empowerment with the girls of Kharanitar village has come to an end. The Earthquake of 2015 coupled with international migration and various societal factors led to a situation for the girls of Kharanitarhar to take up the leadership in their communities. The program served as a mentor to guide their journey and unleash and develop their leadership capacity.

Through workshops, seed grants, safe space meetings and community engagements we set ahead to provide wings to the dreams of the girls of Kharanitar village. In this journey of 9 months, the girls have used up the grant money to learn different skills and also to get the help they require in their academics. Few of the girls used the money to enroll themselves in Maths and English tuition classes.

Amesha Lamichhane - I am going to be an English teacher in the future. This program has helped me realize my dream to be able to share my knowledge with others.

Two of the girls took up computer and science lab classes. Some of them used the money to take music classes.

Dristi Tamang- I can now strike a few cords in the guitar. This has helped me pursue my passion of music.

Besides these, two of the girls used the money to take up driving lessons.

Dikshya Mishra–I feel highly delighted to have been one of the girls of the program. This program has helped at a time when I wanted to learn Scooter and I couldn’t ask my parents for support as they were rebuilding our houses.

Two girls who are in the journey to become engineers are ready to give their exams this April.

Santoshi Uprety-My dream of becoming a future engineer has taken shape now. I want to able to construct roads and houses and make my parents proud someday.

Along with the seed grants, the space meetings and the community engagements of the girls helped create a platform for girls to strengthen their friendship as well as be a part of the community events by taking the leadership themselves. As of now, they are filled with enthusiasm, zeal and passion to continue the steps they have taken. Now, they even have the support from their own family and community.

This journey of transformation couldn’t have been possible without the support of GlobalGiving. The grant support, the learning opportunities for the organization has helped our mission to bring the changes in the lives of young girls. Though the journey has come to an end, the dreams of the girls have turned into a reality and now they are chasing their dreams and flying high..high...and higher!!
