Karuna-Shechen has two updates for this report. The first update relates to a recent workshop provided in early fall, and the second update refers to our Yoga for Karuna project.
1.) Meet Daulaut Kumari from the Baglati Center, she shares her enthusiasm about a recent training, “I am very happy with the way Karuna-Shechen conducted the workshop. I want to spend more time playing with the children but up till now I did not have any material. I am certain that the children will benefit from the various activities!”
More than 120 childcare workers and government supervisors took part in a training held by Karuna-Shechen in September 2018. The topic: the role of play in a child’s life and the benefits it provides. These childcare workers will also receive games and toys to do activities with the 3 to 5-year-old children.
Gita Sharme who has been responsible for the Paraiya Kurd Center since 1998, is also very happy to have learned “new basic concepts for childhood education and how babies can play with toys.” She feels she “will be able to teach better.”
Through our Early Childhood program, 62 new preschools in Bihar are now supported by Karuna-Shechen, which brings the total to 200 in Bihar and Jharkhand! Your support helped us achieve these important training goals.
2.) Together we built an altruistic movement called Yoga for Karuna! On October 19, 20 and 21 many of you joined us to support children and women in need in some of the most remote and underserved villages of northern India. As we all know, India is the birthplace of yoga and yoga classes were offered in solidarity, in the United States and many other countries around the world! All donations from these classes were raised to support programs for women and children and will fund a year's worth of ongoing intergenerational yoga classes for school children in India. We are still receiving donations for Yoga for Karuna, but at last count, we raised over $2,600 with GlobalGiving donations and over $30,000 with our European branches. Thank you to all who participated! We will be posting a short video with our next report showcasing one of the student yoga classes in India.
There is still time to be part of both of these great initaitives, we would love to see you support Karuna-Shechen during the month of November and during our GivingTuesday Campaign.
