Preschool children benefit from the Gift of Play!

By Grace Alfiero | Karuna-Shechen

The results are in: attendance and engagement are increasing thanks to your support!

When we saw preschool children in underserved Indian villages sitting in sparse rooms with little or no stimuli and no interaction, we decided to act — and we invited you to join us.

Our innovative solution was to develop a program that provides toys, training, and support so that children in critical developmental stages would receive engaging cognitive education.

The results so far are heartwarming, captured in the words of one of our support workers, Babita Devi:

“A lot of local parents used to not send their children, especially during the harvesting season. But when Karuna- Shechen provided us with training and a lot of toys and other material, it increased the interest among children to attend regularly. Now they want to come, and we have scheduled 2 days each for outdoor games, indoor games, and drawing classes to make sure that the children are holistically engaged.”

The impact of the project so far is clear: Attendance is up, children are more engaged, and according to well-documented studies, they are far more likely to reach their potential.

Thank you for bringing the gift of play to young children in remote communities of Jharkhand! Active support from people around the world is helping us give children in need important skills they can carry with them throughout their lives.

Please share our project with others and join our online community to follow updates of the impact of this very important program.

With gratitude,

Grace Alfiero
