Inspiration

In this report Gram Vikas Trust (GVT) wants to share an inspirational story of a young girl from a very small and interior village. Kinjal (name changed) is the girl who are getting scholarships from GVT from past three years. Kinjal is doing her Nursing from nearby city from her village. She is the only girl from her village who have come out for further studies. In her village boys also do not continue their studies after completing 8 class or maximum 12 class.

GVT has seen there is lack of awareness on importance of education in this village. There are not any single family who have tried to send their children for higher studies, or do not motivate the children for it. In the initial time it was tuff for Kinjal for further studies, even while she was doing her higher secondary from the nearby village.

Kinjal and her father have fought for education, even Kinjal’s mother was not happy about Kinjal’s further studies. It is not that they could not manage the fees but there is a culture of getting married in young age, and other social implications. But Kinjal have created a best example in the village, and as a result there are many children have started going outside the village for higher studies.

There are four girls with whom our Social Mobilizer have interacted, they shared that Kinjal has set an example and could able to aware some of the families in the village for our education, still there are many parents who are not ready for the higher education, but we believe that the change will happen which have started by Kinjal.

It is rightly said, let us become the change like Kinjal by doing little good thing for the society, to make it better through education.

Education is the Collective Responsibility

As we all are facing the critical times due to covid-19 situation. Almost all the sectors have affected by this critical situation, but slowly all the sectors have started again. But the schools and colleges are still not functioning. Almost all the children, especially the children of primary section and from rural community are the most affected as they have lost almost their one year.

Government are actively focusing on the Home Learning concept, where children can learn at home only with the support of technology and some printed materials at their own, with little support from school teachers. But as we all aware about the situation of rural India, where technology are not that much used, or we can say technology are used for entertainment purpose not for learning. The printed materials are reached with the last child of the village, but there are not any likeminded people who can facilitate the students in understanding it. These are the major problems which GVT is highlighting here, other numerous problems are faced by the rural community in across India.

As discussed in the earlier report, GVT is trying to help the community and specially the children to continue their learning, as we are aware about the upcoming situation, where majority of the rural Indian students are going to drop out from schools or may not be able to remember the previous learning which will increase the irregularity in schools.

GVT is supporting the families, children and schools to cope up with the upcoming situation, by providing some support. We at Bharuch are trying to engage as much people we can in education, from the village only, who can support in managing education in this time. These people are parents, youth, elders, women and other likeminded people who are ready to spend some time with children, and to support children in learning.

The small efforts by the community has able to create a positive and educational environment in the villages, with their innovative ideas and efforts students and teachers are able to linked with each other and are able to learn and teach. We believe that education is the key to success, which is not going to achieve by the singles, it is the collective responsibility.

Small step for education

Primary education is free in India, hence many of the parents do not able to provide motivation to their children to get enrolled or to be educated. Working in the field of education since long time, it has observed that there are different reasons for the parents and students for not continuing study.

Through different initiative GVT has done some work with parents and children and have connected them with the education again. After many efforts by our team they were enrolled in the school or started coming to school on regular basis, due to some financial issues. But due to the Covid-19 situation it has again emerged a difficult situation to make them engaged with the education. Due to school closure the parents and children are again have engaged in the labor work or other areas. And now it seems difficult at some point of time to re-engage them in education.

In this report GVT wants to share about the learning aid required for the students of project villages in rural areas. GVT has observed that many of the children are not engaging with the government program of e-learning at home. As they do not have TV or smart mobile phones at their home. If they have mobile or TV they might not have recharged it for long so they do not able to watch the government programs. GVT have identified few children who are very much bright and need support in this area, GVT have now gifted few second hand tablets and mobile phones to the children for e-learning.

The tablets and smart phones will rotate to the faliya wise (for approx. 6 to 10 children) which will be used by the students. These devices will be monitored by the local volunteers who were identified by us. We are ensuring that the devices are not watched in the group due to covid-19 situation. GVT also shares some important documents to read and study for the children.

The small amount have worth for the children, as they are happily studying. Some of our teachers, volunteer and other government teachers are engaging in this process and helping the children to make them learn and keep engaging with education. If you can help us by giving your old phone or some amount of money to buy the second hand one it will be a great help to the children for study.
