Growing Leaders, One Step at a Time

By Lauren and the GEC Team | GEC Leaders

Dear friends,

As another school term came to a close, we've found ourselves reflecting on just how much our students continue to grow. Sometimes it's easy to focus only on the big milestones—graduations, university admissions, or awards—but so much of the transformation happens in the everyday moments. It's found in the scholar who spends extra time on their studies, takes on a new leadership role, or works after class to help pay for family life expenses. Thanks to your support, we're able to walk alongside our students through all of those moments.

This semester has been especially exciting as several of our newest university students completed their very first semester of college. Like many first-year students, they've experienced the excitement of new opportunities alongside the challenges of increased academic responsibility.

One student shared that university has been both exciting and at times overwhelming as she balances her coursework with working at a mobile money shop to help pay for her education. Another is pursuing her dream of studying Fashion Design and Textiles while working after classes and on weekends to support herself. A third has taken on delivery work during his free time—not only to contribute toward his educational expenses, but also to help support his mother and younger siblings.

Their stories are a reminder that receiving a university acceptance letter is only the beginning. Each new chapter brings fresh challenges, and we're incredibly proud of the resilience, determination, and maturity our students continue to demonstrate.

Our junior and senior high school students have been just as inspiring. Many earned outstanding marks this term, while others stepped into leadership roles as prefects and class leaders. Whether they're preparing for the WASSCE examinations, dreaming of careers in medicine, business, law, or engineering, they continue to approach their education with purpose and determination.

We're also excited about our newest cohort of Grade 6 students. Already, they've shared dreams of becoming doctors, architects, bankers, and community leaders. While their GEC journeys are only beginning, we see the same curiosity, leadership, and potential that we've watched grow in so many students before them.

Perhaps that's what gives us the greatest hope. When we look across GEC—from our newest scholars to our university students—we don't just see academic success. We see young people growing into thoughtful leaders who are discovering their strengths, supporting one another, and beginning to imagine futures that once felt out of reach.

Thank you for believing in our students and for investing in their journeys. Your generosity continues to open doors, create opportunities, and remind each student that they have a community standing beside them every step of the way.

With gratitude,

The GEC Team
