Dear Friend,
You subscribed to email updates from the “Get Women and Girls #InTheRoom” project by Women Thrive Worldwide, a project on GlobalGiving. Here's the unedited update from the field:
Women and girls deserve to have their voices heard. Grassroots women and girls' rights advocates have valuable expertise, but they're consistently being excluded from national decision-making on issues that matter to them. That's why we're working to equip 200 women and girls' rights advocates from 53 countries with the skills, connections, and resources they need to get in the room and make their voices heard.
Two months ago, Women Thrive was able to take a big step by financially sponsoring five grassroots women’s rights advocates to the United Nations’ Commission on the Status (CSW) of Women to engage and build relationships with decision-makers, U.N. representatives, and other advocates. Actions like this are made possible by the support given to projects like our Get Women and Girls #InTheRoom, so thank you!
At the CSW, these five women and girls’ rights advocates brought their expertise, experience, and voices all the way from Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Because these advocates were able to get #InTheRoom at CSW they were able to share what the most pressing issues are for women and girls in their communities with decision-makers directly, to large audiences during events they spoke at, and during media interviews.
When women’s rights advocates get #InTheRoom at high-level events like the CSW, they are able to have their voices heard and change the lives of the women and girls they serve. But before they get in the room, they need the skills and resources to ensure that their issues, priorities, and solutions are taken into account!
In April, with the financial assistance of “Get Women and Girls #InTheRoom” project, Women Thrive facilitated a capacity-building course to 24 women’s rights advocates from 13 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. The four-week long course is essential for advocates before they get #InTheRoom because it prepares and enhances their communication skills and online presence needed before and during high-level events and meetings.
Our work is made possible by your support. We deeply appreciate your commitment to getting women and girls in the room with decision-makers, so that they can be a part of the processes that are affecting their lives. Thank you for being a gender equality champion, and together, we’ll make gender equality a reality.
