Warm Heart exists to provide loving homes to at-risk children from remote villages who need a safe haven and access to school. A few years ago, we lost government school bus funding and had to quickly convert a small truck to use for transporting the kids. Our school bus recently died. We need a larger, safer bus to carry our children to school and provide access for community elders and disabled of all ages to doctors' appointments and events.
We are located in a rural area, where distances are long and there is no public transportation is available. A few years ago, the government stopped school bus funding to NGO's. We scrambled to convert a small truck. We have been using a vehicle that was too small to carry all the kids at once, multiple trips, twice a day, which wastes a lot of time and gas. A few weeks ago the vehicle we have been using died, so the situation has become urgent to raise the funds for a new bus.
A bigger, better bus will solve more than one problem, one that goes beyond our kids. We'll be able to take our children to school and back safely. Also, because we are the heart of our community, we are often asked to take the elderly and the disabled in the village to places they need to go, like doctor's appointments and community events. This project will help ensure that we have a safe and reliable vehicle, which can be used to take care of everyone who needs us to be there for them.
Everyone at Warm Heart and our community will benefit from this new vehicle. It will ensure that our children can get to and from school safely. We'll be able to organize field trips to enhance their education and will be able to provide our communities' elderly and disabled peace of mind knowing that we are there for them. And this is just the beginning. Our bus will be the first such "public" asset in Phrao and will permit many civic activities that have died on the vine for lack of transport.
