In addition to 29 regular and irregular food assistance programs, a large-scale support program was implemented targeting 150 families.
Due to the situation in the Middle East and rising prices, the lives of single-parent families in Japan remain difficult.
We has continued to provide food assistance to approximately 250 single-parent families, distributing food to a total of 470 families over 29 sessions during the three months from April to June 2026.
In a survey conducted in June of this year targeting 150 single-parent families involved with our organization, more than 20% of families experienced difficulty paying utility bills in the past six months. Furthermore, nearly 15% reported a deterioration in employment, such as a reduction in working hours.
Summer holidays in Japan from late July to August, with schools closed, can strain household finances. Therefore, on July 18th, our organization implemented a large-scale food assistance program targeting 150 single-parent families. Instant noodles, summer noodles suitable for eating in the summer, and snacks were distributed to each family. With your continued support, we will continue our food assistance program for single-parent families in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture.
Art Appreciation: Children Enjoy Traditional Ballet
We were invited to a children's performance of "Coppélia" by the Matsuyama Ballet Company, one of Japan's oldest ballet companies, and 30 parents and children went to Shibuya, Tokyo to enjoy the ballet. It was a special performance with easy-to-understand explanations, open to children as young as 0 years old, and everyone enjoyed their first ballet experience.
Japan is about to enter its summer vacation season. Kodomira will be holding events for single-parent families and children with chronic illnesses or disabilities who may lack experience, including building mini 4WD cars, a challenge to climb Mount Fuji (Japan's highest mountain), and a sightseeing tour of Asakusa! Please look forward to our reports!
