Gender Equality for Climate Justice

Dear KEDV supporters,

Under the Women-Led Green Neighborhood Initiative, we have established a Green Business and Entrepreneurship Center for Women in Gaziantep, Türkiye. This project is designed to strengthen women’s capacities and enhance their resilience to the ecological and urban challenges brought on by climate change. At this center, women from Gaziantep are gaining valuable knowledge and skills on how to make their neighborhoods greener and more sustainable. They receive training on topics such as edible landscaping, composting, and eco-friendly solutions like rainwater harvesting. Equipped with this know-how, participants will implement what they learn in their own communities, setting examples of increased local resilience. The center also serves as a hub for advocacy and information-sharing on the impacts of the climate crisis. So far, over 500 women have been reached through the “Fighting Climate Change and Its Effects” trainings carried out under the project.

We remain committed to supporting women and women’s cooperatives across Türkiye by strengthening their capacity to cope with climate change and helping build their resilience in the face of crises. Our activities continue to focus on expanding awareness and knowledge of the climate crisis and disasters, and on aligning economic and social initiatives with climate action.

In the upcoming period, we plan to carry out the following activities:

• Providing women’s cooperatives with training, consultancy, technology infrastructure, equipment, tools, production inputs, and small-scale repair support needed to transition their economic activities into green business models or operate in more environmentally sustainable ways.

• Conducting feasibility studies, business development activities, and analyses to help women’s cooperatives develop strategies that incorporate climate change considerations into their existing production.

• Supporting women’s cooperatives in creating and launching collective production and storage initiatives that enhance energy efficiency and conservation.

• Organizing study visits, meetings, and workshops so women’s cooperatives can exchange information and experiences among themselves and with other organizations and institutions.

• Creating and distributing visual and written printed and digital materials to raise awareness among the public and stakeholders at local, regional, and national levels about women’s cooperatives and to share relevant information.
