The Access Nature Project, an initiative of DIG Farm, enables underserved populations (People with disabilities and disadvantaged families) to gain the many benefits of being in nature. We create free enjoyable outdoor nature programs for people with disabilities and families of limited means, educating on natures benefits, and how to gain those benefits on a regular basis. .Our ultimate goal is self-reliance, creating a lifetime tool for wellbeing.
People with disabilities and disadvantaged families often have limited means to enjoy being in nature and gain its many benefits. Scientific studies have shown that being in nature reduces depression, anxiety and negative rumination; while at the same time increases relaxation, happiness, socialization, cognitive function and wellbeing. We at the Access Nature Project believe that ALL peoples deserve to gain those benefits.
We create free enjoyable outdoor nature programs for the clients we serve, teaching them about the benefits of nature. Through our educational component, they learn where and how to go, giving them the means to enjoy nature's bounty on their own. The valuable followup aspect of our programming, helps them build their confidence to become self sufficient in nature experiences. And, our free educational workshop teaches other organizations how to create ANP programs in their home communities.
Our professionally designed followup survey has demonstrated the short and long term impacts of our programs, After working with our groups for several cycles, they report they understand the benefits of experiencing nature. To our great joy, they also report, they are enjoying more nature outings on their own, thus fulling our goal of building a lifetime tool for wellbeing. An astonishing 100% of our partner organizations report the ANP nature experience is beneficial to their clients!
