Carteret Warriors for Recovery helps victims of Hurricane Florence in Eastern North Carolina recover by providing furnishings, such as mattress sets, dining tables, living room furniture and dressers, and linens and housewares. Many of our families have used all their resources either repairing their homes or finding a new place to live. Many of our clients were also out of work for weeks or months due to hurricane damage and are low on finances due to this set back.
On September 13, 2018, Hurricane Florence hit the coast of North Carolina and stalled for days. Dropping record rainfall and damaging winds. Over 60% of Carteret County alone sustained damage, many people forced out of their homes. Due to the damage to area hotels and apartment complexes, many people have been homeless for months. Families are starting to move back in and this will continue for the next two to five years.
Providing furnishings will enable families to use more of their resources for repairs and other daily needs. It also relieves the stress of having to go out and shop for all the items lost from the damage of Hurricane Florence.
Eastern NC will be impacted positively because the sooner residents get back on their feet, the sooner they can begin to put efforts back into the community. To date. we have served over 425 families and expect that number to grow to over 800.
