Our school is open five days per week from eight in the morning until five in the afternoon. Inside there is always movement with student, staff and parents coming and going. In the mornings we host classes for our students who attend to their public schools in the afternoons, while in the afternoon we offer classes to those who study in the mornings.
During the time our students are with us, they have healthy meals, read in our library, do art work, play and do their homework. Many of the kids have no chance of help at home with reading and writing and therefore our teachers help them to achieve greater grades at their schools.
We also have a program of mental, spiritual and emotional health. For that we have a psychologist who comes on weekly basis to our school to work with our teens and our staff as well.
Additionally, we have a Human Rights certified educator who comes twice per month to give talks to or entire group of students, staff and family members who are invited to attend.
The talks on Human Rights are all suited to the age of the group of the day and our educator, Licenciada Virginia, the regional director of the Guatemalan Human Rights Organization, is an expert in listening and caring for all of them. Not only does she give them her knowledge, but also her heart.
In these talks, subjects such as human trafficking, sexual abuse within and outside the family, alcohol and drug abuse, physical and psychological abuse, emotional burdens, and the loss of a loved ones are openly taught and discussed.
We believe that it is important for our children and their parents to know and understand their rights but also their obligations towards other human beings. The teacher is also willing and happy to listen in private to both, parents and children especially when someone has a personal matter which they do not want to bring up in public.
With her support and that of our psychologist, Licenciado Leonel, we have built a temple of safety and emotional wealth.
We are very happy to have them with us and we love their hearts and commitment to our people.
We couldn´t be more grateful to all of you who, thanks to your donations and support, we can continue giving these children a chance in life, and therefore, making of this a much better world.
Thank you so much!
