The school year began and our students went back to their public school classes as well as to our after-school programs (which in some cases is before school since the kids here in Guatemala only go to school in the mornings or afternoons).
Amongst our children we have a bunch of little ones (in the photos) who needed to begin school this year. But, we learned that some of our little ones weren´t going to be able to start at their public schools due to the lack of financial resources to do so. They come from large families with older siblings who are already studying. Through our social work, home visits and family meetings we were told by their parents that they had to decide between sending the old ones back to school or initiate the little ones in the world of learning.
All of these families agreed that it was impossible to send both.
We have been working some with these young kids for a long time and we knew that they were eager to begin learning at public school. Our core belief is that only through education their future will be different than that of their parents. The opportunities will be greater and they can earn better paid if they are educated.
And this is where we all came together with our Valentine’s Day Match Fundraiser which raised a total of $4,500 and brought in 3 new monthly donors which allowed us to send the little ones to school. Of course, our choice could never be possible without the help of all the generous donors, all of you, who support our work and their dreams.
All I can say is thank you all for, again, making a dream, that is also a human right, possible.
No better appreciation can be sent to all of you than the happy faces and smiles of all of those you support.
Thank you from all the members of the Integral Heart Family.
