Together, your GlobalGiving donations have raised £14,289, which could help our trained volunteer counsellors answer over 3570 contacts to Childline from children and young people, when they are feeling scared, afraid or lonely.

Our latest insights

Online harms have been in the spotlight recently, especially with the UK considering a social media ban for under16s. Yet one crucial perspective is often missing from the conversation: how do young people themselves describe the impact of harmful content they come across online?

Using the voices of children and adults who contacted Childline and the NSPCC Helpline before the Online Safety Act 2023 came into force last year, our new insights briefing shares information about young people affected by exposure to inappropriate and addictive material.

Some young people spoke of being bullied in social media by people they once trusted, and how that made them feel let down and as though they had no one they could rely on for support:

“I’ve been getting loads of hate on my latest TikTok and it’s really messing with my head. I opened up about struggling with my mental health, and people I thought were friends started calling me ugly and telling me to kill myself. I blocked them, but they just kept making fake accounts, and TikTok’s done nothing about it! I thought about deleting my account, but I still want to inspire people and show that we can’t let the bullies win.”

Thank you!

Over 80% of our funding comes from those who choose to give to us, and we are incredibly grateful for the support we receive from those who donate through GlobalGiving.

It is only with your support that we can be there for every child, whenever and wherever they need us. In the face of new challenges, you are helping us create a safer world around them.

Together we can change children’s lives. Together we can stop abuse.
