Thank you so much!

Thank you to everyone who has kindly donated to help to fund Childline! With your help, we have raised over £11,950 which has helped to answer almost 3,000 calls from children all across the UK who need somewhere to turn to.

All of the money that has kindly been donated has helped us continue our work to fight child abuse and neglect. In 2023/24, there were almost 200,000 Childline counselling sessions with children and young people and we reached almost 1,400,000 children in over 5,600 schools through our Speak out Stay safe programme. Thank you so much to all of those who donated.

All mental and emotional health and wellbeing remains the top concern for children and young people contacting Childline. There were 99,179 counselling sessions in 2023/24 about mental/emotional health, suicide, or self-harm, making up 54% of all counselling sessions. The top five main concerns in 2023/24 were: all mental and emotional health and wellbeing; family relationships; friendship issues; school/education problems and bullying (incl. online).

Cubie update - our online chatbot

Cubie, Childline’s friendly chatbot, launched in 2021, Cubie aims to make waiting in the queue a better experience for young people, whilst also providing an opportunity to enhance their time with the counsellor.

In Summer 2023 we made new developments to Cubie, including expanding Cubie to add a “night” version.

Previously, Cubie was limited to 9am-11pm. This was to allow for transcripts that didn’t get through to a counsellor to be moderated by the Childline Online Team. By making small changes to Cubie though, we’ve been able to expand Cubie to run 24 hours a day.

From 11pm – 9am, the day version of Cubie is replaced with a “night” version. This version takes away the free-text input that requires moderation and replaces it with a fully button-based interface, with responses and options tailored for young people who’ll be contacting overnight. The bot will continue to offer the same support, but in a different way that allows it to be there for some of Childline’s most vulnerable users.

Thank you!

Over 90% of our income comes through donations, and we are extremely grateful for the support we have received from those who have donated.

We thank you again for your support, and we hope that you will continue to share and support our fight for children.
