July 2022 Childline progress report!

By Cordelia Simmons | Partnerships Manager, NSPCC

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far to help fund Childline. With your generous help, we have raised £5,979 which has helped to answer 1495 calls from worried children all across the UK.

Here for children when they have nowhere else to turn

Childline is a unique 24/7 helpline service offering confidential support to children and young people within the UK. Last year, we delivered over 200,000 counselling sessions with children and young adult struggling with mental health problems, family relationships, suicidal thoughts and many other issues. Within the last few months, several topical issues such as the war in Ukraine and the cost of living crisis have also been major concerns. For some children, they may simply have no one else to talk to.

On average, a child contacts Childline every 25 seconds, and with your help we can answer each call. We are continually reviewing and developing the Childline service with feedback from children and young people to ensure that it is meeting their needs. Over the next three years, we will be developing several new programmes within Childline. These include initiatives focused on reaching marginalised groups and tackling loneliness.

Since our last report, we have published a joint statement alongside other children’s charities around the Care Review, as well as around the high-profile deaths of two severely abused children in the UK.

We also celebrated our annual flagship day ‘Childhood Day’ which brought everyone across the UK together to have fun and protect children! On the 10th June, we had a variety of fundraising activities happening across the UK, including our first ever Childline Sports Day which brough together over 45 teams from the media sector who raised a whopping £230,000 for Childline! We also secured amazing press coverage on Sky News, BBC News and ITV. Everyone got involved, including celebrities such as Ant and Dec who launched their book in aid of the NSPCC. Within schools, we hosted our Big Breaktime where children were encouraged to play and celebrate their lunch break whilst fundraising for the NSPCC.

Over 90% of our income comes through donations, and we are extremely grateful for the support we have received from those who have donated.

We thank you again for your support, and we hope that you will continue to share and support and our fight for children.
