Help build the Little Haven Shelter. 20 years ago, ROLDA built a shelter for abandoned and suffering dogs. It was renovated once by replacing wood with sandwich panels, but it still stands as it did years ago. Functional but limited, and designed for survival not recovery. Whilst ROLDA's mission has grown, the shelter has not. We are now ready to renovate and transform it into Romania's first cage free dog rescue facility; Little Haven. We are raising funds to start building work.
The shelter was never built with long term plans or a modern design. It was built because dogs were suffering and something had to be done, fast. But every day that limitation is felt. Dogs wait longer. Stress slows their recovery. Adoption becomes harder. Simply because the environment is holding them back. And when dogs need to stay in our care for longer, it means we can't take in new dogs that desperately need a space at the shelter.
A space where dogs no longer live in cages, but in the open, and puppies grow safely alongside their mothers. Every space is designed to prepare them for a home. Dogs can socialise and express natural behaviours, supporting healing. We must begin with the groundwork, by preparing the foundations and installing drainage systems. This is crucial to ensure the renovation can happen, and dogs can be rehabilitated in an environment that genuinely supports physical and mental recovery and rehoming.
In a cage free living environment, dogs recover more quickly. This means becoming more sociable and adoptable faster, so they can leave the shelter sooner for loving permanent homes. This frees up space for ROLDA to rescue and rehabilitate even more dogs. We aim to help 300 dogs per year, and maintain an adoption rate over 95%
