As we begin the New Year, I want to pause to celebrate the past Holiday Wish Drive. With your help and the overwhelming generosity of the community, we delivered over 44,000 wished-for gifts to children, adults transitioning from homelessness, and seniors facing financial challenges.
With the increased living costs in the Bay Area, many more now feel the stresses of budgets not going far enough. Being able to meet our commitments to those we serve is something we at Family Giving Tree take pride in. It’s especially important when we hear from those we serve what these gifts mean.
When asked what receiving a gift meant for those who benefit from the Migrant Education Program, Seidy, their recruiter, shared this story.
“There was an entire family [who was] completely homeless, living in a car. Their 5-year-old girl started to tear up and cry when she realized she was getting a Barbie doll because she thought she wasn’t getting anything. The parents said, “I feel like I’m in heaven because we weren’t able to give gifts.”
Your continued support helps put joy in the hearts of children and relief in the hearts of parents. Thank you.
