This project will build a modest home to replace a dilapidated shack. The photo here is a sample of a home needing replacement. Rain enters through both the roof and the walls, variously made of plastic, rotted metal and cornstalks. Families have no choice but to sleep each night on the dirt or mud floor. Guatemala Housing Alliance needs your help to build healthy and secure homes.
These homes are for working families, deeply entrenched in poverty. They need this help for the security and health of the children. Agricultural workers in this area earn only $3-4/day, when they can find the work, barely enough to feed a family and not sufficient to make improvement to their homes. Dirt floors incubate parasites, and leaky roofs jeopardize health.
Guatemala Housing Alliance builds homes for families living in extreme poverty. The families work alongside us and, if able, pay up to 25% of the price of the home over 5 years at no interest. Our homes are modest, about 16x19', 2-room dwellings, often with outside cooking spaces and outhouses . They are nearly palatial to these families.
This project will greatly benefit both the health of a family and its children's ability to study and advance. With a cement floor, there is much less chance of parasites that rob children of their luster. It will allow a sense of pride this family has never experienced.
