LBH APIK Jakarta has and will continue to provide free legal aid in 5 regions of Indonesia--Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi for women and children victims of Gender Based Violence. Aside from providing free legal assistance, the project will provide psychological counselling, medical assistance, and non-litigation aid.
The number of GBV cases in Indonesia continues to rise through each passing year. In 2022, LBH APIK Jakarta received 1512 reports of cases. As the only legal aid provider specifically for woman in the capital city of Indonesia, we must continue to provide free legal aid. Without it, victims must face the justice system along and might risk revictimization from victim-blaming and sexism that perpetuate the system.
LBH APIK Jakarta is mandated by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to provide free legal aid for women and children. Yet, as a CSO, we are only given 1% from the total budget necessary to provide free legal aid. Through legal aid, we will provide necessary assistance such us legal counselling, legal representation, psychological counselling, medical assistance, etc. Through this, we hope that victims can be empowered to achieve justice.
LBH APIK Jakarta not only provide legal aid for women victims of GBV, we also provide the necessary support for them to recover and achieve justice. Each year, we hope to reach at least 1000 women seeking for justice. Through the project, we also aim to empower survivors of GBV to be able to help fellow women facing GBV out there.
