In 2025, the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation launched the Territorial Strategy, which involves the implementation of climate, water, and biodiversity initiatives, with a special focus on the Middle Tietê and Middle Paraíba do Sul river basins, areas that are key to the biome’s water security and climate resilience, located on the São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro e Minas Gerais states.
The Territorial Strategy aims to promote concrete and measurable transformation in the Atlantic Forest by integrating the causes of forest restoration, clean water, and protected areas.
Key objectives include:
- Restore and conserve the Atlantic Forest, to directly restore 5,000 hectares by 2030 and create conditions for large-scale restoration in the Middle Tietê and Middle Paraíba do Sul basins.
- Achieve zero deforestation by 2030 in the pilot territory, based on satellite monitoring in partnership with INPE and MapBiomas, ensuring traceability and transparency.
- Strengthen implementation of the Forest Code and the Atlantic Forest Law, focusing on restoring Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) and Legal Reserves, increasing ecological connectivity and water security.
- Support public policies and initiatives for biodiversity protection and clean water, emphasizing demonstrative projects, strengthening protected areas, and creating new Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs).
- Promote climate mitigation and adaptation, contributing to carbon sequestration and resilience of communities and ecosystems.
- Engage society and the private sector through the Corporate Alliance for the Atlantic Forest in sustainability actions, financial innovation, and shared environmental responsibility.
